Details | The 1994 genocide perpetrated against Tutsi in Rwanda is one of the most horrific events in recent history responsible for roughly one million deaths during a short 3-month period. The genocide was a result of tension between the two artificially divided ethnic groups of Rwanda: Hutu and Tutsi. Hutu extremists, alongside coerced and willing civilians, carried out a mass genocide against the minority ethnic Tutsi of Rwanda. Further study has also uncovered the transgenerational effects of PTSD among genocide-exposed mothers and their offspring. Overall PTSD or PTSD severity is often the primary phenotype of interest in studies of traumatic stress.
