DetailsBetween May and October 2025, a series of CPD-awarding meetings were held under the Ankole LMNS focusing on improving maternal and newborn care. The sessions covered critical topics such as the prevention and management of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, including respectful maternity care for better birth outcomes, nursing care plans, diagnosis, and the role of ANC in reducing associated risks. Other discussions emphasized the management of postpartum hemorrhage through the use of NLUM drugs, midwives’ roles, and transfusion of blood products. Neonatal care was addressed through sessions on essential resuscitation skills, scientific evidence in combating birth asphyxia, and data-driven reviews of neonatal outcomes. Additional areas included antimicrobial resistance in maternal and newborn infections, self-care among health workers, management of high spinal anesthesia and post-dural puncture headache, and maternal death audits at Dissi Medical Centre and Kabuyanda HC IV. The meetings also featured lessons from the scale-up of HSC and TXA in Isingiro supported facilities and a routine client satisfaction feedback initiative, all contributing to continuous professional development and strengthened quality of care across the region.
